Art assignment: Identity outside of the Eating Disorder

procrastinatingly/driven

shamefully/erotic

equally/divided

spiritually/religious

tearfully/stoic

seriously/mirthful

rarely at peace with contradiction

desperately seeking connection

little grown man-boy

unparented and unwounded

silently screaming

worlds of wonder flying high

timidly adventurous

boundless compartments

hidden in plain sight, the truth, my truth

a public secret

an amalgam of blank photographs

colored by memory and feeling

a cartoon book of stilted, graceful movement

openly shuttered

a well of shallow proportions

a known evil guiding, passport to the world

…and an unknown and untried soldier at the door

time to hold tight and let go

be one and many

the drop becomes the ocean and the ocean becomes the drop

  1. Just catching up on some of your posts now as I’ve been busy for the last couple of weeks. I really love this poetry, seamless contradictions. When reading what you write it really amazes me how much I identify with your spirit. I am just really glad right now that we have gotten back in touch.
